Issue 2

You can’t lead in silence. Voice is the vehicle of vision.

July 21, 2025

You tell yourself you’re being thoughtful. You say you’re just “processing,” waiting for the right time. You call it discernment. Maturity. Wisdom.

But be honest with yourself for a moment: How many opportunities have you watched pass by while you stayed quiet? How many times have you let someone else take the mic…not because they were more ready—but because you were more afraid?

You’ve been taught that silence is strength. That shrinking is safe. That it’s better to be overlooked than to be wrong. So you sit with brilliant ideas, strong opinions, and real wisdom… but say nothing. You cushion your fear with noble-sounding phrases like:

“I don’t want to dominate the space.”

“I’m still figuring it out.”

“I’m not sure it’s my place.”

But here’s the truth most people won’t tell you:

Maybe you’ve rehearsed silence so long that it’s become your default. But, you can’t lead in silence – voice is the vehicle of vision.

You’ve made fear sound like patience. You’ve called your avoidance “preparation.” You’ve baptized your doubt as humility.

But deep down, you know: You’re not quiet because you don’t have something to say. You’re quiet because you’re still afraid of what happens when you do.

You’ve been rehearsing silence so long, it’s become your default. Sadly, every time you swallow your truth, a piece of you shrinks. Every time you say nothing when your heart is burning to speak, your confidence fades a little more. You were not built for the sidelines.

THRIVE WISDOM

Stop romanticizing your silence.

It’s tempting to believe that staying quiet makes you wise, that holding back your opinion is a sign of maturity, or that letting others speak while you sit in restraint is an act of strength. But if you dig deeper, you may find that what you’re calling “thoughtfulness” is actually fear in disguise.

Silence becomes seductive when we’re unsure of our worth. We tell ourselves we’re being careful, strategic, or respectful—but often, we’re just avoiding the vulnerability of being seen and possibly misunderstood. And while there are absolutely times when silence is necessary and powerful, it loses its value when it becomes a habit rooted in self-doubt.

Silence that’s rooted in fear doesn’t protect your peace—it withholds your power. It limits your ability to contribute meaningfully, to take up space with intention, and to lead with clarity. The longer you defer your voice, the harder it becomes to remember what you really wanted to say.

Your ideas, your insights, your truth—none of them can change the room if you keep choosing silence over self-trust. So ask yourself: are you being wise, or are you just afraid of what might happen if you’re heard?

THRIVE PROMPT

What’s the most persistent excuse you use to keep yourself quiet?

Write it down. Now ask yourself—who taught me that? Who benefits from me believing this? And what might happen if I stopped waiting?

Then, say the thing you were scared to say. Not perfectly. Not loudly. Just honestly. To a friend. To your mirror. To your journal. Let it be awkward. Let it be clumsy. Let it be brave.

Because every time you choose your truth over your excuse, you build power.

🎙️ This isn’t just about public speaking. It’s about self-trust. Self-leadership. And building a voice you no longer second-guess.
